“Wave goodbye to camera-based gesture control.” That is the confident directive coming from a one-year-old Waterloo, Ontario, startup called Thalmic Labs. The company is prepared to ship its next batch of wearable-computing armbands for device controls early next year. The $149 armbands called MYO do not require cameras in order to track hand or arm movements. The armbands can wirelessly control and interact with computers and other digital consumer products by recognizing the electric impulses in users’ muscles. (via MYO armband to muscle into computer control (w/ video))

kickstarter:

A god among men.

GODUS is the next step in the evolution of the god game, by the designer who started it all. With a resumé that includes Populous, Black & White, and Fable, creator Peter Molyneux is bringing 25 years of experience to the table and asking Kickstarter backers to join him.

Using your ability to sculpt the land, players will oversee a cult of followers and build a utopia across lifetimes — or wage war against other gods and their human acolytes. It’s an experience that’s been a career in the making, and right now it’s our Project of the Day.

August 7, 1991: The World Wide Web becomes publicly available on the internet for the first time.
The web has changed a lot since Tim Berners-Lee posted, on this day, the first webpages summarizing his World Wide Web project, a method of storing knowledge using hypertext documents. In the months leading up to his post, Berners-Lee had developed everything necessary to make the web a reality, including the first browser and server.

The BioLite Camp Stove looks really neat. It is a portable, packable, high-effeciency, camp stove that generates electricity from the heat to also charge your gadgets:

Our stoves cook your meals with nothing but the twigs you collect on your journey, eliminating the need for heavy, expensive, polluting petroleum gas. Quick to light, fast to boil and easy to use. By converting heat from the fire into usable electricity, our stoves will recharge your phones, lights and other gadgets while you cook dinner. Unlike solar, BioLite CampStove is a true on-demand source.

Brilliant! Seriously, for anyone who enjoys the outdoors this seems like a no brainer.
